The second prompt selected from the 2021 Popsugar Reading Challenge is:
A locked room mystery.
Mystery is my second favourite genre and so, I’m really excited to complete this prompt. It won’t be a challenge, that’s for sure.π For this prompt, I’m reading the following book:
The Guest List by Lucy Foley.
I selected this book cause I was intrigued by the synopsis and also, it won the Goodreads Choice Award 2020 for the Best Mystery. That really convinced me to pick up this. I’m so giddy about reading a mystery !
Now, let’s talk about the book I read last week, With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo.
The book tells the story of Emoni, a mom at the age of 17, juggling all the things in her life: taking care of her daughter and grandmother along with school and part time jobs, the absent father who takes no responsibility and mostly, facing the world against all its criticisms.
She has always wanted to be a chef and when a culinary arts class is introduced as an elective, she realizes that her dreams may still come true. The class also includes a trip to Spain, to gain the work experience of a life time. Even when she has no funds, she doesn’t lose hope and works hard by organizing fund-raising events with the rest of her class. A week in Spain isn’t the only thing that follows as she makes decisions about a cute boy who she can’t help but trust and also about college.
It’s written beautifully, including delightful recipes and many, many food references. So, even as this book becomes the food for your heart, beware, it’ll make you more hungry !
